The structure fictionalized by Semih Zeki based on architectural forms, who probes on architectural structures, breaks them into pieces and reassembles them in his works as if examining the human anatomy and thus builds a constantly reproducing and evolving language, specifies the point of origin of his paintings presented in the exhibition.
Semih Zeki, who says “Each layer coming over the previous one and changing it or reducing its effect by covering it is similar to the images actualized in our daily life through mass media.”, based on this fictionalization, tries to take a new look at the architectural structures which are iconified in our day and a construction work left half finished which we pass by everyday. In the paintings by Semih Zeki, overlapping layers underline the aspects such as each layer coming over the previous one and changing it or reducing its effect by covering it and make references to the images actualized in our daily life through mass media. The paintings which diverge from the point of origin with every color, image or line added to the surface and take a completely different form, thus probe on the change in human nature evolving day by day with the effects of thousands of images.
In the personal exhibition named “Gross Layers”, Semih Zeki probes on building constructions, concrete blocks, constantly changing structures putting nature on the back burner and the distorted relationship with the nature of the humans who have lost their characteristic of an individual and have transformed to a genetically modified organism in social life.
